bus trip to Puno stopped 5 times which was a good thing as i did not want to see the contents of my breakfast again. on route was La Raya, some 4,300m with icy mountains, and various other incan temples where children used to be sacrificed (bet incan students never talked back).
Lake Titicaca (hey, i´ve taught kids with worse names) is pretty big. sorry for the understatements, nothing will describe the places here. there´s a cultural studies term (in french, i´m sure it´s Derrida but don´t want to sound like a wanker who uses words like ´discourse´and ´hegemony´) which means we rarely experience true novelties due to things like the internet. therefore when we go to the pyramids or the great wall, we are experiencing an expectation rather than a new event. it´s not the case here. for those of you wishing to go, it will be worth it. there is no photograph on earth that captures the way clouds form and caress the mountains at Machu Picchu and no video can show you hail over the Floating Islands.
what i can tell you is that cerviche is yummy, imagine sashimi with spices. their rice is like Lebanese rice, with bits of soft wheat that looks like think brown noodles in it (probably less butter), and like Chinese people they prefer meats with bone. fine by me, and to dash the myth that black people love fried chicken, go to ANY kfc in the world, you´ll find an asian. one of the canadians said if you order beer in Peru, chicken materialises next to it, which is the same in asia, though you might want to watch out for avarian flu (i keep typing ovarian flu, and the image which ensues is not good).
still haven´t tried alpaca meat. i don´t think i can, they have faces that are too amusing.
